#07 How robotics can help the microalgae cultivation in bio-waste recycling
Many food processing plants generate bio-wastes during their activity that need to be managed. In order to recycle bio-wastes and introduce them again in the economic chain, one emerging activity is their use to grow microalgae, and then, apply this fine biomass to do new products. To reduce risk, robotics can improve the monitoring job of microalgae growing process, and so turn this emergent activity smarter and efficient.

#13 Waste Audit – Wooden palletsLijstitem 4
When it comes to the handling of waste streams an audit can assist proper waste management by highlighting areas for improvement. An audit can indicate steps to reduce waste generation and save money for the facility. Waste audits can target areas for all R9-strategies like repurposing or recycling.
In this I Living Lab we will focus on the waste stream of wooden pallets, a given that many companies do not yet have a solution-focused policy on. We will see how important it is for companies to operate within a network in the new circular economy. Working together will be the new normal.

#18 SmartCampus: Energy efficiency on University Campus.
First of all, the most important thing is that the electrical energy we have now is used responsibly and smart. Just changing the energy sources will not bring the change we want for our planet. Everything is in vain if we produce energy from renewable sources, but will continue to use it irresponsibly, without control. The global energy landscape will change more in the next 10 years than in the previous hundred.
Digitization will be the key of making power-generating assets more efficient, the electric grid more secure and resilient. In addition to digitization (which helps us to track consumption in real time), educating people is just as important. We need to educate them on how to efficiently use the energy that is available to them.
This I Living Lab wants to educate students to be responsible when they use energy and proposes to develop a low cost device through which they can monitor the energy consumption in their rooms from the university campus and following the monitoring to propose a consumption efficiency plan. Why on university campus? Because we have people from different regions, with different habits and taboos.
